Low Hanging Fruit: A Focus on Existing Buildings

W. Cecil Steward, FAIA, PRESIDENT; JOSLYN CASTLE INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES

One opportunity we see to significantly cut our city’s greenhouse gas emissions is to retrofit our existing buildings. As is listed in our Building & Design Actions Plan, it is our hope to develop a coalition where waste reduction, recycling and reuse of materials, and energy efficiency is not only top of mind in new building projects, but will be applied to existing buildings as we get them ready for a low carbon emitting world.

If you have ideas about our Building & Design Action Plan, email me at csteward@sustainabledesign.org, or simply come to one of our monthly meetings.

Our Mission
